Hello Drayton Valley Racers!
The final AB Cup weekend of the year has arrived! With a low of -13C overnight, a high of -1C during the heats, and partly cloudy, it should be a fantastic day of racing on the trails with the fresh snow that fell today.
The schedule for the day will be a qualifier for all racers U12 and older, then a kings court for the U10 and under, then a ladder format heat (like westerns) with categories racing the same course all together for your heats. Points are based on the qualifier and awards based at the end of the day standings.
9:00-10:05 Qualifier (Oldest to Youngest)
10:15-11:00 U8/U10 kings court
11:00-12:00 U18+ ladder (1,000M course)
12:15-13:05 U16 Ladder (750M course)
13:15-14:00 U14 Ladder (500M course)
14:15-14:50 U12 Ladder (250M course)
Arrive at the venue (Canmore Nordic Tent) 1hr and 15min before your start time to collect your bib and wax your warm up skis with Swix Blue Extra. If you don’t have warm up skis, bring your skate skis.
There will be a technique zone on the 750M course on your 1 steep hill.
There will be a technique zone on the 1,000M course on the hill by the jumps/ just before the cabin. Also, your hairpin turn will be slightly farther so you come into it with a little less speed.
Remember: technique zone means striding, running, herringbone. No double poling in this part of the course.
There will be a festival tent and the cabin for warming at the venue, but these are small indoor areas, so use caution and wear your mask if you choose to go in. There is a decent gap for some athletes tomorrow so may want to come back to the hotel.
Awards for U8 and U10 will be given at the finish line of the race. U18 and older awards will be at 12:20. U16 and U14 awards at 3pm. These award ceremonies will be by the building by the stadium.
These races are a perfect opportunity to fine tune your preparation for nationals. Give it your all out there and see what we can learn.
