It is a skate sprint race for midgets/mini midgets/jackrabbits.
It is a distance skate individual start for Juveniles and older. Here are the details as far as I know so far. Please check back on Friday as I am hoping to get more specific details.
Schedule for Midgets/mini midgets and jackrabbits:
Arrive at COP: 8:50 am
Meet on snow: 9:15 am – ready for warm up
Race Start: 10:00 amSchedule for Juveniles and older:
Arrive at COP: 10:20am
Meet on snow: 10:30 – 10:45am- guidlines depending on your warm up, and distance. See below.
Race Start: 11:30 – 11:45am
* individual 15 second starts.
Info from race organizers:
Kids sprints will start at 1000h. As you may remember things go pretty quick – about 20 – 30 minutes per round and then back up again. We will have the time posted depending on total nos. racing (94 registered as of today).Juvy / Open / Masters will go about 30 minutes after the sprints are done, probably 11:45. They are starting the 4.5K first and then the 9K. Only be about 40+/- racing so at 15 second intervals with couple of short gaps to reduce nos on course, all would be out within 15 – 20 minutes
Race Office is in the Hall Of Fame – lower floor (ticket level) in doors and turn left. Please pick up your own bib- before you come on the snow. Then you will need to purchase a COP day ticket. There will be a special line for racers, you must show your bib to get a discounted price.
Warming tent by trailhead will be open and room for 20 – 30 skiers. East end of main parking lot. The biathlon building is a dirt floored “shed” – can get out of any wind but not heated. It is near the sprint course, ski towards the ski jumps from the warming tents. This can be a meeting place hopefully, but COP is small so you will be able to find us. 😉 😉Please make sure you have warm jackets with you as COP can be a chilly place.
The forecast is for getting quite cold overnight Friday/Saturday, lows of -18, now slightly warmer at -13. But warming up during the day. It is better for skating to wax on the cold side.
Wax recommendation:
1) Solda F15 violet
2) solda performance red ( or techno red)
3) LF6
4) LF4 or Techno green
*keep in mind that LF4 is a very hard wax, best to scrape it off while there is still some warmth in the wax. This avoids the “chipping” that actually pulls the wax off the ski, without leaving it in the pores. All for now,
Please remember to check back for any updates with more detailed information -
