    Hello Red Deer Racers,

The first day of racing kicks off tomorrow!

Organizing a race these days is challenging.  Please continue to be patient as we all work through the ever changing process. Be sure to submit your daily health check which will be emailed to you at 5am. It must be submitted by 7am each day as the OC will only release race bibs for those who complete it.  If your race is not til late in the morning/day, set an alarm for 6:45 AM to complete it, then go back to sleep.

Bibs will be picked up by me and at our tent like usual.

Wear your mask when you are not actively skiing.

Course maps are available on the website: https://www.reddeernordic.ca/abcup56

    U14/U16- 5km (2×2.5km)

    U18 – 7.5km (2×3.75km)

    Open- 10km (3×3.3km)

The grooming team will be working on the icy sections to help them to ski a bit better than today. Should be firm but fast.

Full skating lane tomorrow. There will be no classic tracks set on the race trails.

Remember, it is individual start, so the tracking rule is in effect. The faster skier has the right of way. Track early enough to let someone move, and if you are passed, give way, but try to hitch a ride.

Collect your chip by the stadium (between stadium and club house). Then cross the lap lane to access the start.

Warm up trails are on the golf course. Much of this snow has been “farmed” for the race course, so it is very thin so watch for hazards.

The parking lot is very icy! Slow down and use caution walking in your ski boots as a slip and fall on the ice can break bones (we have seen it happen).  Embrace your penguin and waddle along.

Awards (Top 3 for Year of birth U12-U16, top 3 overall U18 and older) will be available for athletes to pick up from Ivan Babikov (Nordiq Alberta Provincial Sport Director).  He will have them on a table near the timing building/ stadium.

No access to indoor facilities. Follow the protocol, Arrive- Warm up- Race- Cool down- Depart. Pack all the food and drinks you will need to get you through the event.

Lastly, below is the schedule for the day (Check zone 4 for your time).  Arrive 1hr before your start to collect your bib, and check in about any course beta.  I will give all of your skis a buff with our machine to be sure the skis are polished and gliding as fast as possible.
