Hello T1-T2-T3-LC-PC athletes and families. It’s our fall club run/hike this Saturday. Unfortunately the snow is piling up north of the “Canadian Forks”. The older athletes will not be able to run from Cougar Creek to Exshaw Creek. The 2800 meter elevation at the Col will make it a tough, slow and potentially hazardous situation to tackle. This run/hike will need to get back on the shelf until a nice August day.

We are going ahead with PLAN B. We will split the T1-T2-T3-LC-PC groups in 3 and run/hike along Exshaw Creek on Saturday. The idea is for each group to be out there for about 4 hours – at various speeds! Route info below but also check the Gemtrek, Canmore map.

Parents are invited on this hike, we need your help as the groups might break into smaller units. It would be great to have 4 adults per hiking group.

Group 1: Lead by Matt and Roy for the older athletes (~LC-PC). Run/walk along Exshaw Creek to Exshaw Pass. There will be snow at the Pass but it’s not a steep climb at all. It’s a 12.5km trail one way. It’s possible to do the extra ridge walk (Exshaw Mountain Route on the map) but it adds 2km and 700 extra meters of climbing. This could be a good option for the PC’s if the footing is ok.

Group 2: Lead by Christine and Laurie for the less old athletes (~T3’s). Run/walk along the Creek until just below the Exshaw Pass (about at the 10km mark). Return straight back or do the Exshaw Mountain Route (name on the map) but it adds 2km and 700 extra meters of climbing. This is not a good option if there is a lot of snow up on the Ridge.

Group 3: Lead by Alain and Sarah F for the T1 and T2’s. This will be a hike, no running. We will start off along the creek like everyone else and hopefully do the Exshaw Mountain Route (junction is at 6.5km on the Creek). This loop is 14.5km long and 700 meters of elevation. We will do an out and back if the Mountain Route is not in good shape.

All groups to meet at Exshaw school for 1030 (turn left before the store, drive past the firehall and turn left. School is straight ahead). We will aim for all groups to be done at 1430. The 1030 start is to allow the biathletes to do some shooting prior to this.

Please bring the necessary equipment in your camelbak – bear spray for adults, small 1st aid kit (adults), lunch, water, etc….
