Howdy U14’s
Woohoo! First week done and dusted, great work by all especially on the Cloudline run this weekend! I’m a little sad to have missed my favourite trail, but happy to see it was getting some dirt turned up on it.
Housekeeping
We’re going to get going on our way rollerskiing this week, if you are able Sunday or Monday to switch your pole tips that’s going to make your life this fall much easier!
Here’s our plan for the week:
Monday (9) @ Canmore Nordic Centre
5:00-6:30. Skate rollerski. Meet at the team room. Since it’s the first rollerski we’ll hit the basics first, and get agile.
Tuesday (10) @ Canmore Nordic Centre
5:00-6:30. Ski striding. Meet at the team room. We’ll be going over some basic ski striding principles for those that are new to the business, which should be a great review for those returning from last year.
Not sure what to use for striding poles? Shoot for something 10cm shorter than your classic poles (Maybe a siblings poles!). If you can’t find anything to fit the bill, your classic poles will work as well.
Thursday (12) Biathlon
We might get a little rain this afternoon, make sure to dress appropriately to stay warm! Gloves recommended!
4:45-6:15. First official practice! Just like skiing and striding, we’re going straight to the basics in some of our shooting fundamentals. There might, might even be a game (There’ll be a game).
Don’t forget you need to leave enough time to get to the centre, pick up your rifle from the team room, walk to the range, and set out your mat & rifle for a 4:45 start. If you’re shooting off a sling don’t forget a good shooting top, or, a two holed sock you can put your arm cuff on to make it a little more comfortable.
Saturday (13) @ Highway 1A
1:00-3:00 Skate rollerski on the 1A. We will take advantage of the closed road and get out for a nice long distance skate ski. Bring a snack for during, and one for after, and your drink belts!
Drop athletes off at the end of the Vermilion Lakes Rd so we have easy access to the closed 1A. Meeting Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/93guPZ2s9Yy1htiA9
Mark will bring roller skis for those that need them, if you are planning to come and need skis please send me an email and confirm your athletes binding type so I can make sure I have something that will work for everyone!
