    Here are the details for the Western Canadians. Note that this posting will be updated frequently, check back often especially the evening before a race.

    Note: There is not enough Saturday evening banquet tickets for everyone. They are being sold on a first come first serve basis. Tickets are available at the race office (biathlon building) via Norm Neil.

    Tue (17): 4:30-5:45pm (short session). Z1 classic + sprint training. Bring classic AND skate poles. Some of it with the T1’s. BRING YOUR SIGNED WAIVERS TODAY. Meet with Nelson at 5:45pm and Bronwyn at 6:00pm in the meeting room of the BWTC.

    Wed (18): No team training today. Glide wax your skis at home or come to the wax room to do them. We will post a wax recommendation here by 4:30pm or come to the wax room between 4:30pm and 5:30pm to wax your skis. We will also post some of the race details for tomorrow’s sprint here (the coach meeting is at 7pm). Also check zone4.ca for the start list.

    ALSO, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CLASSIC SKIS ARE CLEAN, HAVE THE KICK ZONE SANDED WITH #80 SANDPAPER AND THAT THEY HAVE A THIN LAYER OF TOKO GREEN BINDER (HEATED IN)

    Thursday’s race details:

    Weather:
    Min tonight: -6, cloudy periods
    Max tomorrow: +2, probably around 2pm

    Qualifier start times (15sec start)
    Order of start (check http://www.zone4.ca for official start times):
    Midget boys: 9:00am Midget girls: 9:08am
    Juvenile boys: 9:16am Juvenile girls: 9:29am
    Junior boys: 9:40am Junior girls: 9:49am
    Open men: 10:00am Open women: 10:12am
    Master men: 10:18am Master women: 10:22am

    Qualifier is an individual start and skiers have a 6 second window to start (+3, -3 seconds from the skiers start time). A start gate will be used.

    Mini-midgets and younger are racing under the Kings Court format starting at 10:30am. The course is 150 meters long, drag race format using the finish stretch of the sprint course.

    Please come to the team room 1.5 hrs before your start. Drop by the team room with your skis as soon as you get there.

    Course:
    As per your training this week. There are 3 distances 150 meters, 500 meters, and 1000 meters. There will be 5 lanes in the last 100 meters and 4 most of the way around the course.

    A few rules/procedures:
    – Access the start area is via the east side of the lodge (walk there).
    – No skiing in the start and finish area before the race.
    – Course will close at 8:50am, but will reopen after the qualifier is done as long as skiers don’t interfere with the Kings Court races.
    – No ski marking for sprint races
    – Remember that it’s a classic race, skating is not allowed. Step turning is allowed to go around a corner, pushing with the outside leg only (inside leg follows the inside of the corner).
    – No skiing backwards on the course at any point

    Heats :
    First start at noon. Tentative order of start will be:
    – Junior men (semis and finals)
    – Junior women (finals)
    – Then from midgets up to masters

    – 3 minutes between each heat
    More details on race order will be given in the morning.

    – False starts for heats: first false start is against the field, the skier making a second false start will be disqualified

    – The commands from the starter will be: Take your start position, Set (no movement), then gun goes off (you go!)

    – Remember the change of lane rule for the last 100 meters:
    You can only change lanes when you want to pass someone. If nobody is in front of you – don’t change lanes

    – Missing waivers: Sara Frangos, Becca Frangos, Michelle Hall

    Awards:
    Kings Court races are at noon outside the day lodge
    Other category awards will be at the end of the day

    Banquet is on Saturday at 6pm. Tickets available at the race office, get them in the morning if you want one (only 250 available). They cost $25 each.

    Thu (19): Western classic sprints. Get to the Team room 1.5 hrs before your start. Proposed start time is 9am, kings court format for mini-midgets and under (around 10:30am). Heats will start at noon for midgets and up.

    Fri (20): Z1 recovery skate ski at 10:30am (T2/TC) or 11:15am (T1’s), meet in team room. You will glide wax your skis for tomorrow’s race after the workout so bring your classic race skis with you. We will also post a glide wax recommendation here at about 2pm if you prefer to glide wax at home. I would like to meet with Leah and Colin after the workout. Check back here in the evening for more details about tomorrow’s race (note coach meeting is at 8pm). Also check http://www.zone4.ca for the start list.

    ALSO, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CLASSIC SKIS ARE CLEAN, HAVE THE KICK ZONE SANDED WITH #80 SANDPAPER AND MARKED CLEARLY. ALSO MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE YOUR NAME ON YOUR SKIS. DO NOT PUT ANY BINDER ON-SKIS SHOULD BE CLEAN

    Sat (21): Westerns, individual start classic race. Get to the wax room 1.5hrs before your start. Proposed start time is 10am. We will need help with coordinating activities (pick up bibs, helping kids to the start, warming up, etc….). The team room will be used for waxing only, hang out in the daylodge.

Have your skis clearly marked with your kick zone marked with tape. We will use the day lodge as a hangout place. The wax room will be too busy.

    *Also, please bring your skate skis to wax after the race is complet

    At the start
    The race is an individual start. Starts will be at 15 sec intervals, so make sure you are at the start in time. A start gate will be used.

    Entrance to the start area will be through the tunnel. There will be a 2meter corridor. Signs will be in place to mark this.

    There will be no ski marking!

    The Course
    There will be two lanes throughout the course. The course will be closed at 9:50. Absolutely no skiing the course after that time. No skiing backwards on the course.

    A few rules
    No blocking, No skating, No team skiing, Skier that is passing has right of way-move if someone yells track.

    Awards
    – Will follow the race in the Biathlon Stadium.

    * Tickets for the Sat. 6pm Banquet are still available at the race office.

    Sun (22): Westerns, mass start skate race. Proposed race time is 9:30am. Get to the wax room 1.0hrs before your start. Again, we need help with coordinating activities. The team room will be used for waxing only, hang out in the daylodge.

    At the start

    The races are a mass start. The start will be a Chevron start. All categories will either be seeded or drawn for start positions.

    Entrance to the start area will be through the tunnel. There will be a 2meter corridor. Signs will be in place to mark this. This is the same as the classic race.

    There will be no ski marking!

    The Course

    The course will be closed at 9:20. Absolutely no skiing the course after that time. No skiing backwards on the course.

    There is a designated feed station set-up area near the biathlon building. Feeds should be kept to the wider man-made trails.

    A few rules
    No blocking, No team skiing, Skier that is passing has right of way-move if someone yells track. This will be essential on the narrow 5km loop.

    Awards

    Will follow the race in the Biathlon Stadium.
